ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture originates in East Asia and has been utilized for centuries in the treatment of countless conditions by restoring the body’s own auto-regulatory and self-healing capabilities. Treatment is based on a system of meridians which traverse the entire body. The acupuncture points found on these channels are high density areas of microcirculation, lymph, and connective tissue which communicate with the brain, regulate hormones, stimulate the immune system, and relax the nervous system. Thus, one needle echoes throughout the whole body.

Origins

The roots of Chinese Medicine, of which acupuncture is a branch, claim 2500 to 3000 years of recorded history. The medicine itself is a living and evolving tradition. As one of the five complete medical systems in the world (the others being Western medicine, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, and Naturopathy), Chinese Medicine is an entire system of theory and practice that has evolved separately from the Western biomedical paradigm.

Acupuncture in the west has largely become synonymous with the treatment of myofascial pain conditions. While acupuncture is very effective in the treatment of this type of pain, it’s scope extends far beyond it. In fact, the perspective of Chinese Medicine extends beyond the narrow view of any one individual pathology or complaint to address the larger living and interdependent system.

Each treatment incorporates a root (the constitutional level treatment) and a branch (the complaint) treatment. Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of allergies, insomnia, anxiety, hormonal imbalance, bowel disorders, and much more. Safety

Acupuncture is performed using hair-thin, sterile, stainless steel needles. It is very safe in the hands of a board-certified and licensed acupuncturist. In NYS, this does not include dry-needling as performed by physical therapists or any other unauthorized healthcare provider. These services rendered by any professional other than those licensed or certified are outside the scope of practice in New York State.

”When you’re in pain the brain releases endogenous opioids, cannabinoids, and/or prostaglandins. There’s a veritable pharmacy inside each and every one of us.”
